SWAZ acknowledges PSL fine and FC Platinum’s remedial actions

The Sports Writers Association of Zimbabwe (SWAZ) welcomes the Premier Soccer League’s decision to fine FC Platinum head coach Norman Mapeza USD250 for unsportsmanlike conduct
toward a journalist during a post-match media briefing at Rufaro Stadium on 30 April 2025.

We appreciate the PSL’s prompt response following our formal letter of complaint, which was addressed and emailed to both the league and FC Platinum regarding the incident.
We view this sanction as an important step in affirming the values of professionalism and mutual respect in football-media relations. We also take note of FC Platinum’s efforts to resolve the matter, including facilitating a meeting between Coach Mapeza and journalist Tafadzwa Chigandiwa under the guidance of a media consultant.

The club’s commitment to improving future interactions and reinforcing its media policy is a commendable step in the right direction. SWAZ appreciates Coach Mapeza’s expression of regret and his stated commitment to fostering a collaborative relationship with journalists. We believe the mutual pledges made during the mediation meeting will contribute positively to professional engagement between the media and football stakeholders.

As sports writers, we reiterate our dedication to fair, ethical, and constructive coverage of football in Zimbabwe. We stand ready to support any initiatives that promote dialogue, respect, and
professional conduct within our sporting environment.

We trust all parties will continue working towards a football culture grounded in mutual respect and openness.
