The impact of Artificial Intelligence on media practices, the rise of content creators in the social media ecosystem, and increasing illegal sports betting operations must be addressed immediately and firmly.
RABAT, Morocco — AIPS underlines that while content creators have diversified sports coverage, their rise has also brought concerns about accuracy, accountability, and ethical standards.
Unlike traditional journalists, many content creators operate outside the regulatory frameworks that govern established media outlets, raising questions about the credibility of the information they disseminate. It is mandatory that the international sport organizations respect the Ethics.
AIPS, through its working group created for this matter, highlights the need for regulatory bodies to establish clear guidelines for content creators, ensuring that their work aligns with journalistic standards of truthfulness and fairness, without forgetting the freelance journalists that are forced to reinvent themselves as content creators.
Artificial Intelligence is a powerful tool that is increasingly integrated into newsrooms, but concerns about data privacy, content authenticity, and job displacement have intensified. While AI can be a tool to process data analysis and content production, its unchecked use risks undermining journalistic integrity by generating content that lacks the necessary contextual and ethical considerations. AIPS calls for more comprehensive training for journalists to adapt to AI technologies while maintaining the core values of the profession.
The global impact of illegal sports betting is really dangerous. AIPS highlights the urgent need for international regulations that would not only safeguard the integrity of sports but also protect journalists who investigate these activities. The current fragmented legal framework has allowed criminal networks to exploit sports events for financial gain, posing significant risks to athletes, teams, and the credibility of sports media.
It is vital to unify efforts to combat these networks and the role of investigative journalism is crucial in exposing such operations. AIPS reaffirms commitment to international collaborations in tackling these challenges that the profession is facing, and addressing the specific obstacles that women face in the profession. We must act urgently, because we have been speaking about it for a long time, but with few practical results.
AIPS emphasises the need to develop the new generation of sports journalists worldwide through the AIPS Young Reporters Programme, grounded in ethical standards and principles of gender equality. AIPS will continue to implement initiatives to address the new challenges in the profession while upholding the highest ethical standards
